HNI: Give a gift to last a lifetime

Do you want to leave a legacy? Do you want to be a permanent part of this historic town we call home? Have we got an idea for you!

The Newburgh Riverfront Pavilion project is quickly gathering sponsors and funders and will hopefully become reality soon. The amphitheater has been on the Town of Newburgh Park Plans for years and it is exciting to see this project move forward.

For a detailed description of the project, you can go to www.historicnewburgh.org simply look for the Riverfront Pavilion Tab. When reviewing the renderings of the project notice that the roofline is designed to reflect the waves of the Ohio River and the concrete 'wings' are specifically placed to shelter the performers and reflect the sound to the audience.

The stage will be approximately 47-by-32 feet and will be available for multiple purposes and groups in our community.

Many events already happen in the Lock & Dam Park that will be enhanced by this pavilion. The Newburgh Wine Art & Jazz Festival, the Fireworks & Evening in the Park and Fiddler Fest are just a few that come to mind. Once the project is complete I would naturally see the Outdoor Family Movie Nights move to this location too.

Additionally this new area will provide educational opportunities for Warrick County students as well as provide a special venue for musicians and local performers. Plus, I can't wait to see Newburgh Community Theater host an outdoor production on the riverfront.

This facility will also be a draw to our community. I would see weddings hosted here as the setting will be amazing. Additionally, it will be open to the public so families and groups out enjoying Newburgh and the River Town Trail can stop to enjoy a picnic meal they've picked up at one of our restaurants or simply relax in the park.

If you drive past the Old Lock & Dam Park, you will notice the first part of this project is already underway. The Little Red Brick House was moved to the park in early December. The house has been saved and will become an integral part of the new complex. We say Newburgh is where "Tradition meets Contemporary" and this is a perfect example of blending our history with a new build for everyone to enjoy.

Your support is key to the completion of this project. You can become a permanent part of this development by participating in the Buy-A-Brick Fundraiser. Buy it for yourself, give as a Valentine's Day gift, recognize a significant birthday or anniversary, or purchase as a memorial for a friend or family.

A 4-inch-by-8 inch brick is only $75. Each brick offers three lines of text with up to 16 letters per line. You can find a form on the Historic Newburgh, Inc. website or stop in the Visitors Center and pick one up. For more information call Historic Newburgh, Inc. at 812-853-2815.
