Hagan opts for trial, refuses plea deal

The man accused of the murder of a Newburgh woman has formally denied a plea agreement.

Isaiah Hagan, 22, of Evansville, was originally arrested in late April last year after being accused in the shooting death of Halee Rathegeber, a 20-year-old Newburgh native and University of Southern Indiana student. Her body was found at the Alcoa Soccer Complex east of Newburgh on April 24.

Hagan was charged with felony murder with the possibility of life without parole, felony murder, robbery resulting in serious bodily injury as a Level 2 felony and obstruction of justice as a Level 6 felony.

Warrick County Prosecutor Mike Perry offered a plea deal to remove the possible sentence of life without parole and offered a sentence of 60 years. Hagan affirmed that he denied that deal.

After several delays, Hagan's trial is scheduled to take place from Tuesday, May 1, through Friday, May 11.
