Esther Louise Martens, a longtime resident of Boonville, died Monday, Dec. 19 at Walnut Creek Memory Care facility.

Born in 1938 in West Hamlin, W.Va., Esther lived a long, wonderful life. She spent her years volunteering for various organizations, was a member of the Evansville Rose Society and a foster parent for 30 years, where she helped change the lives of many children. She was a member of Seventh Street Baptist Church in Cannelton.

Esther loved socializing and meeting new people. She had a wonderful smile that could light up a room.

She was preceded in death by her longtime loving husband of 54 years, Donald Ray Martens.

Esther is survived by her only son, Rocky Martens and his wife, Tammy; two grandchildren, Amanda Baker and her husband, David, and Cory Martens and his wife, Whitney; four great-grandsons, Jack, Wyatt, Liam and Knox Baker; two sisters; and five brothers.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Dec. 22 at Alexander Funeral Home-Newburgh Chapel, with Pastor Ken Slater officiating. Burial followed in Maple Grove Cemetery in Boonville.
