Virginia Agnes "Ginny" (Derr) Samples, 94, of Santa Rosa, Cali., died July 21, 2017.

She was born Oct. 10, 1922, in Boonville, Ind.The fifth of eight children, she was the daughter of the late Albert Charles Derr and Agnes Elizabeth Meyer Derr.

Ginny attended Boonville High School and graduated in 1941. She went on to Lockyear's Business College and graduated with an Executive Secretarial degree in 1942 and then served her country at the Evansville Shipyard from 1942 to 1944. After the war, Ginny worked in the Derr family business, and in February of 1950 she married Ronald E. "Gene" Samples. Gene and Ginny were happily married for nearly 63 years. Ginny raised four children and was a perfect executive wife, hosting events, serving on charity boards and traveling throughout the world as part of delegations in the coal industry. She was a devout Catholic all her life, and was the last remaining of her siblings.

She is survived by her four children, Ronald E. Samples II and wife, Judith; Rebecca S. O'Connell and husband, Daniel; Thomas H. Samples; Susan S. Kaper and husband, Thomas; 11 grandchildren, Erin, Dustin, Emily, Sarah, Adam, Eric, Abigail, Evan, Nicholas, Joseph and Michael; 5 great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 14 at Saint Clement Catholic Church in Boonville.
