William (Bill) Nolan Wire, 72, of Lynnville passed away in the early hours of Jan. 5, 2019, at Transcendent Healthcare in Boonville.

William was born on Feb. 19, 1946, in Tennyson, to Mildred (Baughn) and William Wire. William also had a sister, MaryAnn, and a brother, Robert. William was wed to Sandra (Holder) on March 3, 1967.

Bill retired from the Warrick County School Corporation in 2011 after 44 years of dedicated service. Bill rarely took a sick day, and continued to work through a cancer diagnosis, radiation, and chemo treatments, and seldom complained. William had an unmatched work ethic and could always be counted on to pull a good prank.

Bill attended and was a member of the Old Friendship General Baptist Church where he would help with the Lord’s Acre Auction annually.

Bill’s hobbies included hunting raccoon, rabbit, deer, and even made trips to Tennessee to hunt wild boar and Colorado to hunt elk. In retirement, Bill enjoyed tinkering with his antique tractors and was proud to show them off at local antique shows and parades. Bill also collected a wide variety of toy farm equipment that you could find displayed all over the home. Bill always looked forward to visiting with his grandkids, and great-grandkids, with whom he would always have a tall tale to share.

William is survived by his wife of 51 years, Sandra (Holder) of Lynnville; daughter, Susan, of Spurgeon; sons, Matthew (Tamera), of Lynnville, and Joshua, of Lynnville; six grandchildren, Zachary (Kathryn), of Newburgh; Zerrick (Brooke), of Elberfeld; Stephen, of Winslow; Michaela (Chris), of Lynnville; Katherine, of Lynnville; Charles, of Oakland City; three great-grandchildren, Emma, Beau, and Myles; cousin, Don Phillips (Linda), of Tennyson.

William is preceded in death by his parents, Mildred (Baughn) and William Wire, sister, Mary Ann Helming (Kenny), and brother, Robert.

Services will be Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2019 at 11 a.m. at Koehler Funeral Home in Boonville. Officiating will be Pastor Phillip Elikofer with graveside services at Little Zion Cemetery in Tennyson. Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
