To the editor:

Well, Mr. Trump has not backed down on wanting to ban Muslim immigration to the United States, nor has he backed down on his plans on putting American Muslims on a database to keep track of them, as well as wanting to place Mosques in the U.S. under surveillance.

This is absolutely unnecessary and uncalled for.

Do you think that Christian churches should be put under surveillance and that Christians should have to be registered on a database? I do not think so.

What happened in Germany recently was wrong and was an attack on all humanity. I condemn these attacks, as do many peace loving Muslims.

I feel that since the United States was responsible for the refugee crisis from North Africa and the Middle East that they should allow refugees from the Middle East and North Africa to come here to live. The U.S. created this mess by ousting and murdering Libyan President Mu`ammar al-Qadhafi and then trying to oust Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. Since the U.S. caused this problem then they should fix it by allowing refugees to come here to live instead of blaming them and scapegoating them for every problem in the world.

I also want to point out that Islam is a great religion and Islam does not condone violence, terrorism or hatred. Islam means to submit to the will of God through peace. True Islam is non-violent and no true Muslim kills innocent people. Look at boxing legend, the late, great Muhammad Ali, who refused to fight in Vietnam because his religion forbade him to kill innocent people and former L.A. Lakers basketball legend Kareem Abdul Jabaar who also refused to fight in Vietnam because he did not want to kill innocent people.

I also want to point out that Allah is the same God Christians and Jews worship. Allah is just an Arabic word for God. Christian Arabs call God, ‘Allah’ and Christian Arabs also say, ‘Allah-U-Akbar’, which means ‘God is Great.’

Should we blame an entire religion for all the violence and extremism in the world as Mr. Trump and some the people he has surrounded himself with have? Should we just shut down the borders to people fleeing violence and persecution (even persecution and violence that the U.S. created)? I do not think so.

While there are extremists in every religion that does not make the entire religion look bad. Extremists like ISIS or the Westboro Baptist Church out of Topeka, Kan., do not represent Christianity or Islam and are neither Christian or Islamic. No true Christian is a racist bigot and no true Muslims kills innocent people. Both Westboro Baptist Church and ISIS are hate organizations. Extremists hijack and pervert great religions for their own personal agendas.

I believe Mr. Trump needs to visit a Mosque in Washington, D.C., and take part in a prayer service and learn more about the Islamic religion.

As for me, since the political winds have changed, I will stand with my Muslim brothers and sisters against the racist, fascist, reactionary and bigoted policies of Donald Trump.
