Top sports stories of 2016: Softball teams fight it out at Indiana semistate

Both Boonville and Tecumseh softball teams battled against strong regional opponents to make their way to semistate.

Boonville knocked off Jasper in a steep battle on the Wildcats home turf, 3-0, to advance to the semistate semifinal against Lebanon. Tecumseh took on Loogoottee on the road to defeat the Lions, 6-5, to take on Borden in the semistate semifinal.

Both teams fought rain in the battle to advance but in the end both would fall.

Boonville fell to Lebanon in a show of defensive strength, 2-1.

“I told the team they made Boonville proud the way we ended the year,” Boonville coach Mike Wilson said. “Making it to semistate was quite an accomplishment.”

Tecumseh fell to Borden, 3-1, despite fierce competition.

“Things don’t go right sometimes,” he said. “We had one bad inning. You have to bring your A-game at semistate.”
