The Castle Knights boys' and girls' soccer teams both won in their double header against their SIAC rivals the Evansville Central Bears.

The matches were played at EVSC soccer fields on Aug. 23.

For the Castle boys, currently ranked third in Class 3A, they shut out the Bears by the score of 4-0. Up to that point, they haven't given up a goal all season. They did play in a tournament at Evansville North a couple days later where they won both matches but they did give up a couple goals. Castle's overall record as of this writing is 5-0.

The Knights goals were scored by Adam Brookman, Joseph Kerney, Reece Mcdaniel, and Brock Wandel.

"We're like a family," Wandel said. "We play really well together and know each other really well. We're really starting to come together."

Wandel, who is also the Knights kicker on the football, doesn't have a problem transitioning from playing soccer during the week and football on Friday nights.

"Both (football and soccer) have been really supportive," Wandel said. "It's a lot but I love it. There are different styles of kicking a soccer ball than a football so I must accentuate."

"We looked good at times," Castle coach Mike Reiter said. "It took us awhile to break them down. It's only the third game of the season so we still need to work on things."

The Castle girls played right after the boys. Their match with the Lady Bears was a lot closer as Castle won by the lonely score of 1-0. The Lady Knights are also undefeated at 5-0.

The Lady Knights goal was scored by Mckenna Tutt.

"It wouldn't have happen if it wasn't for my teammates," Tutt said.

Despite the win, Lady Knights coach Doug Diedrich wasn't pleased with his team's effort.

"We overlooked Central," Diedrich said. "We weren't patient. A win's a win but kind of lazy all night."
