Warrick County runners descended on the IHSAA semistate competition in Brown County and one came out victorious.
Junior Haley Barker will advance to the state finals representing Boonville after taking 18th place in the race with a time of 19:14.6. Barker made an appearance at semistate last year as a sophomore and ended her season there after taking 41st with a time of 20:10.7. She will take on runners from across the state at Terre Haute’s LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course next Saturday at 1 p.m. Last year’s winner, Sarah Leinheiser of Carmel, completed the course with a time of 17:30.8.
Also in the girls race for the Pioneers was sophomore Alyssia Faulkner, who finished in 86th place with a time of 20:58.3. Castle freshman Shelby Luker came in 130th in the semistate race with a time of 22:12.0.
The Castle boys team took to the semistate competition as a team and came out in 10th place with 274 points. Sophomore Jackson Sawyer was the top finisher for the team, taking 45th place with a time of 16:50.8.
Also running for the Knights were: senior Matthew Scales, 62nd, 17:01.7; junior Christopher Brake, 72nd, 17:06.0; sophomore Corde Outlaw, 103rd, 16:26.5; sophomore George Economou, 107th, 17:29.5; junior Ethan Jones, 111th, 17:32.0; and junior Matt Gerst, 143rd, 17:59.2.
Kyle McCallister finished in 51st place for the Pioneers with a time of 16:57.3.
