Boonville man arrested after shooting

A Boonville man has been arrested in connection with a shooting at a fireworks gathering.

Lacoy Jones, 21, of Boonville, was arrested by the Indiana State Police on Monday after an investigation into a shooting that took place at a gathering involving fireworks. According to posts from the Indiana State Police Jasper District, the gathering was near Dale and involved fireworks in celebration of the Independence Day holiday.

According to the social media post from the state police, several individuals were attending the gathering when an argument occurred and a firearm was brandished leading to one adult male being shot resulting in life threatening injuries. The post said that the state police responded to a request to assist the Spencer County Sheriff’s Office in the investigation of the shooting later that morning.

Then, on Monday, officers arrested Jones in Cynthiana for an outstanding Spencer County arrest warrant. He is faces the charge of attempted murder, a Level 1 felony, and is being held in the Spencer County Jail with no bond.
