Ammo manufacturer to bring 185 jobs

A new firearms and ammunition manufacturer is looking to bring 185 new jobs to Warrick County.

Patriot Ammo will be located on Vann Road in the former Spectronics building.

“They are from Warrick County and they wanted to keep this business in Warrick County,” said Larry Taylor, economic development director. “It’s a significant investment.”

Patriot will initially be manufacturing .22 caliber long rifle ammunition.

“It’s a great market for those who like to shoot and practice shooting,” said Taylor. “It’s an economical round to shoot versus a .45 round or a .9mm.”

Of the 185 expected new hires, Taylor said most of those positions will be filled within the first 24-36 months.

Average wage for Patriot workers will be $19.59 per hour.

The company is looking to invest $13.2 million to renovate the building to meet its needs, as well as the construction of a new addition.

The new facility will include an indoor shooting range for testing purposes.

Also, an investment of $2.7 million will be made towards equipment.

Construction is expected to begin later this year or the beginning of 2016.

“It’s the type of business that the state is encouraging,” said Taylor. “It’s a significant manufacturing addition in an industrial zone.”

Patriot’s Mike Phillips said the company has been working on this for two years and is excited to finally move forward with plans.

Patriot was also looking at locating their facility in Crane, but Phillips said that it was important for them to provide new development and jobs to Warrick County.

He said Patriot is looking to be partnered with the county for a long time.

Phillips said the company is hoping to attract local, national and international customers.

The Economic Development Advisory Commission voted unanimously to recommend a 10-tax phase-in for the business. The Warrick County Council will now decide whether or not to allow the tax phase-in.

Taylor said the tax phase-in will save Patriot $746,000 over the next 20 years.

However, he added Patriot will bring in $761,000 in additional tax revenue.
