WARRICK COUNTY — Former Indiana Department of Correction employee Michael Dodge was found guilty of criminal charges in Warrick County.

Dodge had been a parole officer since 2016 and had built up a relationship with a parolee that proved to be toxic.

In 2019 Dodge and the parolee had been charged with break-ins in Vanderburgh County after admitting to a string of burglaries. One of these burglaries took place in Warrick County.

On Oct. 14, 2019, Dodge and an Indiana State trooper served a search warrant on an apartment unit at a complex in the 7100 block of Lincoln Avenue near Newburgh. Dodge returned to the property with his parolee after being informed that there was a large duffle bag of money. The parolee and Dodge approached the apartment manager as an on duty cops that needed to search the unit again. After 15 to 30 minutes of searching, the two men gave up when they couldn’t find the cash. Dodge had been armed at the time of the break-in and at one point, removed the gun from its holster to make sure the coast was clear.

Dodge was charged in Warrick County in cause number 87C01-2205-F2-174 May 8, 2020. He was also charged in Vanderburgh County in cause number 82C01-2005-F4-2920.The Defendant hired Robert Canada to represent him. His bond was lowered in Warrick County from $100,000 surety / $10,000 cash to $5,000 cash over the State’s objection. The defendant bonded out of jail on a $5,000 bond within days of being arrested. He was arrested on May 12, 2020, and bonded on May 14, 2020.The matter was continued several times and remained in the court system up until recent times. On Nov. 1, Judge Greg Granger found Dodge guilty of Burglary While Armed with a Deadly Weapon, a Level 2 Felony. Judge Granger had the Defendant taken into custody at the State’s request and over objection of the Defendant.The defendant waived his right to be sentenced within 30 days. The sentencing date is set for Jan. 9, 2023, at 1:30.
