Dr. Kent Gregory McKinney

Newburgh, IN — Kent Gregory McKinney, 69, of Newburgh, Indiana died on June 3, 2020. For 45 years, Kent and his wife Marilyn enjoyed the companionship and fulfillment of creating a beautiful life and family together.

He was born Feb. 17, 1951 in Evansville, Indiana to the late Katherine (Conner) and Oral McKinney. Kent was raised by his parents and step-father, Frank Yeager. He graduated from Boonville High School, University of Evansville, and IU School of Medicine. He completed his residency in Family Practice at St. Mary’s Hospital.

Kent practiced family medicine in Newburgh for 38 years. He cared deeply about his patients and approached his practice with a full heart. When Kent’s patients presented with a difficult problem, he was determined to find the diagnosis. This curiosity served him well throughout his career. For the last several years of his practice, Kent was proud to have worked alongside his daughter, Lynn. Each day since joining, Lynn has had the unique joy of hearing directly from patients the many ways in which Kent impacted their lives. He was also a passionate teacher and took great joy in mentoring the wonderful people he worked with throughout his career.

He was a proud father and grandfather. Kent loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. Whether he was cooking pancakes, watching their sporting events, or just passing the time, Kent was in his element when they were around. The house was alive with their laughter. His loved ones will always remember Kent’s humor, dry wit, storytelling and friendly smile. He had the gift of gab.

Kent was an old country boy at heart. He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, working on his farm, and cooking with his Big Green Egg. He found joy in hosting his friends and family, especially for a good fish fry. But no one can be outdoors all the time—when the weather was bad, he enjoyed reading and watching movies. And, boy, could he find entertainment in any movie! Kent was a life-long student and was always excited to learn something new. He enjoyed spending time with all of his friends, and he had many.

Kent McKinney will live in the hearts of so many people, including his wife of 45 years, Marilyn McKinney; brother, Keith (Terry) McKinney; daughters, Lori (Jeremy) Jensen, Lynn (Kevin) Kessler; son, Kurt (Sara) McKinney; and grandchildren, Emily, Brady, Kaila, Klay.

A “Celebration of Life” will be held in the near future. Friends are welcome to attend.
