Harold Ross Black, 83, of rural Boonville, Indiana passed away at his home on Oct. 9, 2020 surrounded by his loving family. He was born Oct. 2,1937 in Clarksville, Tennessee, to Elzie and Nora (Whitfield) Black of Palmyra, TN.
He graduated from Springfield High School in Tennessee, received his bachelor’s degree from Austin Peay University, and his master’s degree from Butler University in Indianapolis, IN. He retired from Warrick County School Corporation after more than 32 years of teaching music. He was a long-time member of North Friendship General Baptist Church in Lynnville, Indiana. He served as a deacon and choir director for many years. Harold was also a 50-year member of the Lynnville Masonic Lodge.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters; Juanita Trevathan and Sara Hamilton, and sisters-in-law Laura Whitney and Karen Smith.
Harold is survived by his wife of 54 years, Bettye (Whitney); daughters Cindy (Ralph) Hardebeck and Kathy (Jody) Yager; five grandchildren, Liza Hardebeck, Andrew, Brady, Conner, and Grant Yager; brothers-in-law Don Whitney and Ehrlich Smith and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be on Thursday, Oct. 15, 2020 at 10 a.m. with visitation at 9 a.m. Burial will take place at Maple Grove Cemetery with Pastor Spencer Gaines officiating.
