BOONVILLE, Ind. — Lawrence “Larry” Charles Lacer, 71, of Boonville, Ind., passed away on Friday, April 29, 2022, at his home with his wife by his side.
Larry was born in Evansville, Ind., on Aug. 4, 1950, to the late Robert L. Lacer Sr. and Dorothy Marie (Montgomery) Lacer.
Larry was employed at Alcoa and retired as a Master Electrician after 30 years of service. He was a devoted union member of the United Steelworkers Local 104.
Larry was elected and proudly served as Warrick County Auditor for 4 years. He currently held the position of Boonville City Councilman at Large, currently as Board President.
Larry was a lifetime member of the Boonville Elks 1180, where he served a term as Exalted Ruler, trustee, house committee member and was once elected Elks member of the year.
Larry was also a member of the Sons of American Legion Post 200.
Larry enjoyed the years he spent coaching his children and their teammates in various sports but most of all he loved being a “Poppy” to his grandchildren. He enjoyed spending time with each of them and couldn’t resist teasing and joking with them. He always had a front row seat attending all of the activities they were involved in. He was so proud of each one of them and their individual accomplishments. He was always their greatest fan.
Larry enjoyed cooking and grilling. He was a master at smoking Bar-B-Que including his famous ribs. Oh, and rest assured Larry enjoyed eating he meals he prepared. Only nothing he made could compare to his favorite dish, Sheila Mae’s fried chicken. Some say her chicken is the reason he married her. Only close friends and family know she couldn’t boil water then.
He is preceded in death by his parents and son-in-law, Dion Bruner.
Larry is survived by his wife of 50 years, Sheila Lacer of Boonville, IN; children, Troy Lacer and DeAnna K. Bruner; his grandchildren, Stephen DeCosta (Ally), Zander Lacer, Emma Marie Lacer, Haley Bruner, Devyn Bruner, and great-grandchild, Seniah DeCosta, all of Boonville. He is also survived by siblings, Phyllis Scales of Evansville, Ind., Brenda Harding (Bobby) of Newburgh, Ind., and Robert Lee Jr. (Vicki) of Newburgh, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews.
And he is survived by his tribe of friends that always managed to vacation during hurricane season together.
Services will be noon Friday, May 6, 2022, at Koehler Funeral Home in Boonville, Ind., with Pastor Tom Hubachek officiating.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until noon Friday, May 6, 2022, at the funeral home. There will be a Celebration of Life immediately following at the Boonville American Legion Post 200.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests a memorial contribution be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or you do a random act of kindness with no expectation in return — this is how Larry lived his life and the world was a much better place with him in it.
Friends unable to attend may send a condolence to the family at www.KoehlerFuneralHome.com.
