Evansville — Gene “Zero” Ellis Ashby, 83, of Evansville, Indiana passed away on Monday, May 11, 2020 at his home in Evansville.

Gene was born on July 30, 1936 in Tennyson, Indiana to the late Rufus and Lucille (Droste) Ashby.

Gene served in the United State Army and the United State Navy during the Korean War. He was an avid outdoors man and loved golfing, camping, boating, and fishing. He was a member of the VFW Post #1114 in Evansville, Indiana.

He is preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Debra Smith.

Gene is survived by his wife of 43 years, Gloria Ashby of Evansville, IN; children, JoAnn Douglas and her husband, David of Evansville, IN; Timothy L. Ashby and his wife, Donna of Evansville, IN; William Michael Ashby and his wife, Cheryl of Chrisney, IN; Rodney J. Ashby and his wife, Charlene of Conroe, TX; brother, John Ashby and his wife, Connie of Olney, IL; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Services will be 12 p.m. on Saturday, May 16, 2020 at Koehler Funeral Home in Boonville, Indiana with Darrell Howard officiating. Burial will be at Little Zion Cemetery in Tennyson, Indiana.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. on Saturday, May 16, 2020 at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Evansville VA Clinic.
