BOONVILLE — Helen Elizabeth (Pride) Fulcher Meyer passed away Nov. 23, 2020 at the Woodmont Health Care Center. She was 83 years old.
Helen was born Oct. 19, 1937 in Washington, Daviess County, Indiana to Wilbur and Sadie (Woodall) Pride. She graduated from Otwell High School in 1955, and completed her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education at Oakland City College and Indiana State University. She taught and later served as principal at Otwell Elementary School. In addition to her work at Otwell, Helen also served as a board member with Hospice in Pike County and mentored principals through the Indiana Principal Leadership Academy.
Helen loved music and performed in local plays and in the choir at Main Street Presbyterian Church in Petersburg, Indiana, where she was a longtime member and Elder. In later years, she played the piano and sang in the choir at St. Clement Catholic Church in Boonville. She was also a frequent volunteer in local nursing homes, playing her music to enrich the lives of the residents. She continued to minister through her music after moving to the Woodmont Health Campus where she resided at the time of her death.
She enjoyed playing golf in Boonville, gardening, painting folk art, spending time with family and friends and participating in Bible study groups. Helen also appreciated an annual Winter trip to Florida, where she could soak up the sunshine and take long walks.
Helen is survived by her husband, Leroy of 31years. Helen was blessed with a large number of descendants who will miss her smile and her beautiful music, including five daughters: Cynthia Brown (widow of Michael), Evansville; Sonya Wotring-Grams (Rick), South Bend; Katrina Fulcher, Winslow; Lorri Deffendoll (Mike), Petersburg; and Susan Craig-Gibson (Mike) of Huntingburg all survive. Helen leaves 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
Helen is also survived by Leroy’s family: his children Bernie Meyer (Dee), Lynn Arteberry (Alan); 3 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
Preceding her in death are Helen’s parents, her first husband (Jesse John Fulcher), her brother (Norman Pride), and a great-grandson (Brody Beard).
A private ceremony took place on Friday, Nov. 27, and a memorial event honoring her life will be announced at a later date.
