The Boonville Pioneers would take their volleyball squad to the west side of Evansville to play against the Mater Dei Wildcats at the Alles Athletic Center on Sept. 2. Boonville would lose this match in four sets by the scores of 25-15, 21-25, 25-9, 25-13.
The loss puts Boonville’s record at 1-3 as of print time.
With the exception of the second set, the Wildcats were pretty much in control for the matches entirety.
“Mater Dei was our fourth game of the season so we are still getting into the swing of things. Most teams we have played against have had several more games than us. Ashlee Lutz had several great kills that created huge momentum swings in our favor. Our second set was a great example of how we can play, but we need to turn that energy and focus into three sets,” Pioneer coach Rachel Reed said.
Analyzing the entire match, the second set would be the one that should stand out. In the set, the Pioneers competed from start to finish. The Wildcats would have their final lead in that set at 9-8 and the Pioneers would take over from there. In the other three sets, the Wildcats would get an early lead and never let go.
Lutz would lead the Pioneers in kills with seven followed by Gracie Newton with five.
Sky Williamson, Brooke Hyndman, and Alison Ward would have eight digs apiece for Boonville.
