Castle swimmers took strong victories for the chance to advance to the girls swimming state finals.
Castle girls took second at the sectional hosted at home with 415 points behind Memorial in first with 421.5 points. Boonville took ninth as a team with 77 points at the sectional hosted at Castle.
In the sectional hosted at Jasper, Tecumseh took 11th place with 72 points.
The first place winner in each event will advance to the state finals.
Castle freshman Madelyn Porter took first in the 200 yard freestyle race with a time of 1:53.29 and will advance to state finals. Senior Jami Zimmerman took third and junior Abbey Daniel took fourth in the race.
Madelyn Porter also will advance in the 500 yard freestyle after taking first with a time of 5:04.64. Senior Jamie Zimmerman took third in the race.
Castle senior Kaitlyn Porter took first in the 200 yard individual medley with a time of 2:03.78 and will advance to finals. Freshman Elle Dewees took fourth in the race.
Also advancing for Castle, the 400 yard freestyle relay team of Kaitlyn Porter, Zimmerman, Madelyn Porter and Plank took first with a time of 3:34.96.
Castle freshman Chloe Plank narrowly missed advancing to the state finals with second in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 24.24 seconds behind Memorial senior Elizabeth Broshears in first with a time of 23.27 seconds. Castle senior took seventh in the race.
Plank also took second in the 100 yard freestyle race with a time of 53.02 seconds behind Mount Vernon freshman Sophie Kloppenburg who finished first with a time of 52.60 seconds.
Kaitlyn Porter also had a close second finish in the 100 yard butterfly race with a time of 55.09 seconds behind Broshears in first with a time of 53.55 seconds. Daniel took sixth in the race.
The Castle relay team of Plank, Kaitlyn Porter, Zimmerman and Madelyn Porter took second in the 200 yard freestyle relay race.
Also for Castle, Dewees took third in the 100 yard backstroke and the 200 yard relay team of freshman Maya Yamaguchi, Dewees, Daniel and senior Zoe Minto took third.
Now, those advancing will face opponents at the state finals prelims on Friday, Feb. 14, at 6 p.m. at the Indiana University Natatorium at IUPUI in Indianapolis. The finals will continue on Saturday, Feb. 15, with diving prelims and semis at 9 a.m. and consolations and finals races at 1 p.m.
