The Boonville Pioneers hosted Memorial Tigers losing in a tough contest by the score of 61-52 in overtime on March 3.
After Boonville took the early lead in the first, Memorial was up 15-12 heading into the second. Boonville stayed with the Tigers all game long, but did not retake the lead again until Ryan Smith and Hunter Bruce hit back-to-back threes to put Boonville up 44-42.
Something bizarre then occurred toward the end of the fourth quarter. With 25.7 seconds left and Memorial leading 49-47, the fire alarm went off and everyone was quickly evacuated. The game resumed once the fire alarm stopped.
With Memorial up 50-47, junior Maddux Bruner hit a three with 2.2 seconds left to tie things up. Boonville, however, only score two points in the extra period and thus ending Boonville’s season.
Memorial advanced and defeated Mt. Vernon, but lost to Heritage Hills in the sectional championship. It would be Heritage Hills first sectional since 2003.
Bruce led the Pioneers with 15 points and Smith with 13 and Cade Graham led Memorial with 28.
