The Tecumseh Lady Braves are repeat sectional champions. Over the weekend, the ninth ranked Lady Braves defeated Wood Memorial in the semifinals by the score of 56-21 last Friday then came back and defeated the tenth ranked Spring Valley Lady Blackhawks by the final score of 53-42.
“Kids played very hard and we talked about being focused and I think the kids were. Brave Nation was loud. It was almost like having a sixth man on the team. I have to give my a lot of credit to my assistant coaches. They put in a lot of work that people don’t see. It was a team effort,” Tecumseh coach Adam Lubbehusen said.
Just a sophomore, Kaybree Oxley has proven to be a double double machine. In Tecumseh’s first game against Wood Memorial, she scored 19 points and grabbed 14 rebounds. Senior Layne Pemberton also contributed with 11 in that game.
For Tecumseh, it’s now onto the regionals to be played at West Washington high school in Campbellsburg. The Lady Braves are set to play Lanesburg in the early game this Saturday. Should Tecumseh win, they will have to play the winner of Trinity Lutheran and Loogootee.
The Lady Braves will have their work cut out for them as all four teams in this regional are ranked. According to the last ICGSA poll, the Lady Braves are ninth with Loogootee ranked first, Trinity Lutheran third, and Lanesville sixth. The only team in this regional Tecumseh has faced this season has been Loogootee. Tecumseh lost to the Lady Lions by the final score of 77-42 on Jan. 4.
