With two weeks left in the regular season, the IHSAA football draw is out.
Braves, Knights and Pioneers alike are preparing to take on the competition in their respective sectionals. The endgame: Lucas Oil Stadium and a state championship trophy.
In 5A competition, Castle will face competitors in Sectional 16, including Bedford North Lawrence, Evansville North and Floyd Central. On Oct. 28, Castle will take on North, while Floyd Central and Bedford North Lawrence go head-to-head. The winner of those match ups will face off on Nov. 4 in the sectional championship, fighting for the opportunity to advance to regionals.
The Knights (5-2) will get a preview match up of their sectional pairing this Friday with a regularly scheduled game against North (3-4). The Floyd Central Highlanders (4-3) have already gotten a taste of Bedford North Lawrence (3-4) with their regular season match up last Friday where Floyd Central walked away with a 39-23 win over the Stars. Castle’s final opponent in the regular season will be Memorial on Oct. 14.
In 4A competition, Boonville will face competitors in Sectional 24, including Boonville, Edgewood, Bosse, Central, Reitz, Harrison, Jasper and Owen Valley. On Oct. 21, Boonville will take on Edgewood, while Jasper faces Harrison. On the same night, Reitz will take on Bosse, while Owen Valley will face Central. The winner of the first two games will face off while the winner of the second two games go up against each other in the sectional semifinals on Oct. 28. The final two teams left will take the field in the sectional championship on Nov. 4.
The Pioneers (4-3), Edgewood (6-1), Jasper (3-4), Harrison (4-3), Owen Valley (3-4) and Central (6-1) have yet to face their pairings, but Reitz (6-1) and Bosse (0-7) will get a preview of their match up this Friday in a regular season game. Boonville will take on South Spencer at home this week before taking on Mount Carmel, Ill. in their final game of the regular season on Oct. 14.
In A competition, Tecumseh (3-4) will face competitors in Sectional 48, including Linton-Stockton (7-0), North Central-Farmersburg (3-3), North Daviess (1-6), North Knox (4-3), Perry Central (2-4) and Tell City (1-6). On Oct. 21, Tecumseh will take on Linton-Stockton, while Tell City faces North Central and Perry Central takes the field against North Daviess. The victor between the Braves and the Miners will go on to face North Knox on Oct. 28, while the winners of the other two games are facing off in the sectional semi-finals. The winners of those two games will face off in the sectional championship on Nov. 4.
While each of the competitors in Sectional 48 have fought amongst each other, none of the teams have faced their sectional opponent in the regular season. This week, Tecumseh will take on North Posey at home before facing Eastern Greene at home in their final match up of the season on Oct. 14.
