Warrick County teams kick off girls golf season

For Warrick County girls' golf teams, the fall season is already in full swing.

Boonville, Castle and Tecumseh teams all kicked off with their first matchups on Monday, Aug. 5. Boonville and Castle took on opponents at the Mount Vernon Invitational at Western Hills while Tecumseh kicked off their season with a matchup against Pike Central at Pride's Creek Golf Course despite facing a loss, 243-223.

Castle ultimately took fourth at the Mount Vernon Invite with 419 strokes while Ashlynn Weir took second individually representing the Lady Knights. But Castle made a comeback on Saturday, Aug. 10 at the Washington Invitational taking first place overall against 10 other teams. Senior Carly Frazier represented the Lady Knights with the top spot at an even par 72.

Meanwhile, Boonville took sixth place at the Mount Vernon Invitational and got their feet wet for the start of the season. On Wednesday, the Lady Pioneers hosted Heritage Hills at Boonville Country Club and pulled out a win. Junior Taylor Putnam chipped her ball in the hold at hole three, but it was sophomore Lillie Redmon with the top spot at the end of the day with 53 strokes.

Boonville and Tecumseh both took on opponents on Monday after press time. Castle will take on opponents at the Terre Haute South Invite while Boonville and Tecumseh take on opponents at the Forest Park Invite hosted at Christmas Lake Golf Course on Saturday, Aug. 17.
